Boston Center of Self-Realization Fellowship
Welcome Newcomers!
Your First Visit
Welcome to the Boston Center of SRF! The Center is free and open to all; registration or membership is not required in order to attend our services. Please enter at the lobby door (to the left and up a short flight of stairs as you stand facing the building).
Those interested in learning the Self-Realization Fellowship techniques of meditation are welcome to enroll in Paramahansa Yogananda’s home study course, the SRF Lessons. Our book room is open on Sundays for the purchase of other SRF publications and meditation aids.
We’ll be happy to greet you in the lobby after service to answer any questions you may have.
What to Expect at Our Services
The Sunday Meditation Service, held from 10 to 10:50 a.m., is primarily silent meditation. The Sunday Reading Service, from 11 a.m. to noon, includes short periods of meditation, interspersed with readings and kirtan chanting. That service is recommended for newcomers who aren’t familiar with meditation. Thursday evening services, held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., follow a similar format.
We meditate seated in chairs with eyes closed. If you don’t know a specific meditation technique, it is suggested that you talk to God in the language of your heart.
We encourage you to arrive a few minutes before the service start time. Once the service begins, entrance into the chapel is allowed only during periods of chanting and the scheduled break between the Meditation and Reading services, to maintain a peaceful atmosphere for those who are meditating. Participants may leave the chapel at any time.
If you arrive late, you are welcome to sit in our lobby and listen to the service until a chant or break occurs. An usher will be present to tell you when you may enter the chapel.
To meditate in the chapel, you must be at least 12 years old. Parents with children younger than 12 who wish to bring their children may do so; the family can listen to the service while seated in the lobby or in our Fellowship Hall. An usher will be present to direct you.
Additional information about our services and social events is available on our Weekly Services page and through our monthly newsletter, which you can sign up to receive here. Directions to the Center can be found here.
We look forward to meeting you and meditating together at the Boston Center of SRF.
